Your North Carolina Cowboys, Inc Board of Directors along with 15 volunteers and newly sworn in NCCI Regulators arrived at the range Monday morning and were greeted by a cold and consistent rain that did not stop until late Wednesday.
Not to be deterred, all of the heavy lifting of steel, target stands and large stage props were put in place in the 5 bays by 4pm Monday thanks to Barbwire Benn's tractor and skill and Stonefirm Slim's expert stage set up directions.
Tuesday saw more rain and chillier weather but also saw additional help arrive. Mucking through the mud and rain, the day was spent getting all targets in their final place and setting out more props and decor that included a cow that could not control her bladder, a train to carry the cows to market, a mine shaft, and numerous other props that added to the Cattle Drive Theme. We were also able to get the main tent up and some of our wonderful vendors started to arrive.
Wednesday was more of the same with the clouds finally breaking late afternoon in time for members of the Board to get 5 stages of their shoot-thru completed before darkness set in. As a result of the weather putting us so far behind, several board members elected to not shoot the match so we could make sure we had the match and posses properly set and that we were ready to open the registration tent first thing Thursday morning.
Thursday morning was a chilly but dry morning and we did not see any more rain the remainder of the week. We were able to get our warm up stages, speed stages and Wild Bunch match in and all of our vendors and shooters were getting reacquainted.
Friday started with a chill in the air but that quickly gave way to a beautiful day and ended with a record crowd at our Friday Night BBQ on the Range prepared by Brewman and sponsored by the Gunpowder Creek Regulators. Our Wild Bunch Awards were presented along with Speed Match awards. The award winning Cockman Family entertained everyone and Lash Toru provided our prayer and a brief uplifting sermon.
Saturday was another beautiful day for the final 5 stages of Cowboy Action Shooting and we closed the evening out at our Awards Banquet which was catered by Boondocks Brewing's Catering from West Jefferson, NC.
Sunday was a travel day for most of our shooters and vendors but we had plenty of help on hand to finish breaking down the stages, storing everything away for next year, cleaning up the range and returning it to our great friends at RCWA.
Your Board is already hard at work planning for 2026, and as the song goes,
"You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet".
Thank you for another wonderful year.
We look forward to seeing you on the range during 2026 and again at the annual
